Drummer, percussionist and producer Ian Chang will release his debut full length 属 Belonging via City Slang on the 24th of April (digital) and the 29th of May (psychical). Until now, Chang has been best known as a recording member of Son Lux and a frequent collaborator, who's contributions can be heard on records by Moses Sumney, Kazu Makino, Joan As Police Woman, to name a few. Taking full creative control on 属 Belonging, 'Lion Dance' is the immersive second single from the album. Following the considerably poppier lead track 'Audacious feat. KAZU', 'Lion Dance' is a textural sonic exploration. Inspired by "the lilting rhythms of a drummer on a Chinese New Year Lion Dance video (Chang) found on Youtube", layers of manipulated percussion interact in unique and interesting ways. Throbbing synthesizers add a churning sense of rhythm, while lighter arpeggiated top lines flitter around at the top of the track's frequency range. Even though there's a lot going on in 'Lion Song' it doesn't feel overcooked, rather, a truly intriguing headphone moment that will allow to close your eyes and escape for a moment or two. -Holly Mullineaux
